The MRI Machine.
This show had a good few steel projects but it was a minimal set overall. This was one of the biggest moments when the character gets an MRI and the lit-up scenic unit is flown in mere inches above the lead character’s head.
Method: 1x1 16ga Box Tube, cleaned, cut, welded, and grinded down. Unit hinged in center for load-in and truck fit purposes.

The dynamic Z-Racks
This was perhaps the unit I am most proud of, and most of this page will be centered around it. The show called for 3 metal z-racks that were cheaper to fabricate than to purchase. They served as mobile hospital screens in the show, id addition to hanging spots for street signs and set dressing.
Method: Built out of 16ga1-1/2” Box rolling frame with 1” schedule 40 pipe uprights. Each frame got 4 weld nuts in order to attach casters.

Returning to stock.
Although the Barrington Stage Company costume shop does not need more Z-Racks, the scene shop does! The units I built will be returning to the to serve as mobile welding screens. Working this summer we often needed to pick and choose which areas got screen blocking them from the light, but with these entering stock, it is more possible to fully surround a work area!
